Dr. Otto Schott (*17.12.1851 - † 27.08.1935) is known as the founder of modern glas technology. As a chemist and glas specialist, he seeked to contact Ernst Abbe in a very early stage of the enterprise history. Schott moved to Jena in 1882 and established his glas research facility.

Ernst Karl Abbe (* 23.01.1840 - † 14.01.1905) was a German physicist, statistician, optician, entrepreneur and social reformer. Together with Carl Zeiss and Otto Schott, he established the fundamentals of modern optics. Abbe developed many optical instruments and thus helped Carl Zeiss to become a world known company.

Carl Zeiss (* 11. 09.1816 - † 3.12.1888) was a German mechanician and entrepreneur. In the year 1847 he started his workshop for precision mechanics and optics. On the basis of Ernst Abbe’s outstanding scientific achievements, a global player in the field of optics gradually evolved.
