Leica Experience Day Keynote: Growth and Surprise For 2012
Posted on November 20, 2011Today Leica’s CEO Alfred Schopf and Dr. Kaufmann opened the Leica Experience Day 2011 and gave an interesting outlook to the photokina year 2012.

Now being profitable again Leica goes again for growth and expansion in serveral areas:
Leica Akademie

Alfred Schopf opened the event with an introduction of the Leica Akademie and a look back on its 80 year of history. Leica is planning to expand the Leica Akademie into a worldwide network starting with UK and North America in the last year and Russia as next milestone.
Availability of Leica Lenses

The long delivery of Leica lenses is a big topic in our forum. In this point Dr. Kaufmann provided an insight into the development of the last 12 months: Leica managed to double the output of lenses and is working hard to deliver even more. The obvious reason: Even the increased output doesn’t match the massive demand. Dr. Kaufmann sees as one of the most important tasks for Leica to keep the high level of quality insurance even with the higher production numbers.
Leica Stores

Also the network of Leica stores will be developed further. Leica is the only camera manufacturer with such an own worldwide network of retails stores. It’s planning to increase the number from 50 to about 200.
Leitz Park

Just now the planning for the Leitz Park II is in it’s final phase, this part of the park will become the new home of the Leica Camera AG. The completion is planned for late 2013. Additionally to the projects in Germany the Leica plant in Portugal is completely rebuilt.
Blackstone Deal

Of course many of the Leica fans were eager to hear something about the deal with financial investor Blackstone. Dr. Kaufmann explained that Leica can cope with such a big range of new projects (expansion of lens production, worldwide Leica Akademie, Leica Store network, Leitz Park – and the development of new Leica products) with a strong partner. But Dr. Kaufmann assured that his family will play important role in Solms.
New Products

Dr. Kaufmann didn’t make any announcements of new products – but he quickened our appetite. He promised more than one surprise for next year – and he told us that they haven’t been discussed or discovered by Leica Rumors or the Leica Forum until now. But I’m pretty sure this will change within a short time…
Exciting Year 2012

Also without concrete product announcements I’m pretty sure that 2012 will become an exciting year for Leica and the Leica community. The company is doing well and is going to continue this positive development in 2012.

They are working hard on the delivery problems of Leica M lenses, the move to the Leitz Park in Wetzlar will happen in the next two years, Leica Akademie and Leica Stores will create more presence of the Leica brand worldwide.

And it looks as if Leica has new and interesting products in their pipeline for the photokina year 2012 – we are really looking forward!
