Mark Leong
Mark Leong is a fifth-generation American Chinese whose family emigrated from Guangdong Province to California more than a hundred years ago. After graduating from the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University in 1988, he was awarded a George Peabody Gardner Traveling Fellowship to spend a year taking photographs in China. In 1992, he returned to China as an artist-in-residence at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, sponsored by a fellowship from the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Foundation. He subsequently decided to make his long-term home in Beijing, where he has lived since, observing what changes and what remains the same in the world's most populous country. Leong's photos have appeared in Time, Fortune, the New York Times, Business Week, the New Yorker, Stern, and National Geographic. He has received grants from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Fifty Crows International Fund for Documentary Photography. His book China Obscura won a special citation from the Overseas Press Club for photographic reporting in magazines and books in 2004. Leong's photographs first appeared in National Geographic in "China's Fossil Marvels" in the August 2005 issue. ![]() |

Mike Roberts
My earliest memories of the world beneath the ocean surface, were of following my dad while he was spearfishing off the coast of Keawekapu on Maui. I was a little boy and it was the mid 1950's. Few people lived in South Maui then. The road was dirt and the beaches seemed to be my personal domain. Now, over a half of a century later, I am scuba diving and my passion for the sea has become obsession. Much of my underwater photography is captured within a couple of miles of the same area I snorkeled with my father. The undersea world is still full of splendor and there are still new things to see on every dive. It is that obsession with these new and splendid things that I have attempted to share with you through my imagery. I now conduct private underwater photography workshops and lead private, underwater photography dives on the island of Maui. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something that stirs you. http://photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=2202472 摄影师拍摄夏威夷海龟享受鱼群“按摩”服务 据英国《每日邮报》12日报道,一名摄影师在夏威夷潜水时,拍摄到一只海龟正在接受小鱼们的全身清洁“按摩”服务,妙趣横生。

Vincent Munier is a photograph born in 1976.
He was influenced by photographers such as the Japanese Michio Hoshino and the Finnish Hannu Hautala, in particular. For him, they catch the essence of wildlife's beauty. The genuineness of their pictures reveals a long and trying work out in the field, often in testing conditions. “I still believe in the power of pictures to reveal nature's beauty, to make people become aware of the dangers that threaten it.” Vincent was prize-winner, three years running, of the "Eric Hosking Award" in the "BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year" competition. As such, his photographies have been exhibited in over 35 countries, including the United States, Brazil, Spain, Sri Lanka and Morocco, as well as in many museums and scientific centers all over the world. http://www.vincentmunier.com/ ![]() |

David Osborn, born London, England 1961. Upon leaving school and after a one-year Foundation in art and design at Hornsey College of Art, London, I entered the Graphic Design degree program at the Camberwell School of Art,one of London’s oldest and respected colleges for graphic design, painting, book -making and restoration. During my studies at Camberwell, I discovered that photography was more suited to my personality. Since sitting at a desk held little attraction for me, I took control of my own education and, under the guidance of a tutor, organised my own photographic program. Even though I graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Camb. in graphic design, I emerged from Camberwell a self taught photographer with no real employable work experience. After a year of freelance work and employment in the photography department at Shell Oil, I joined Reuter News Pictures in Fleet Street, one of the world's largest and oldest news agencies, where I began intensive, on-the-job training as a photojournalist. Though inexperienced, Mr Denis Paquin, then of Reuter News Pictures recognized my enthusiasm and dedication and quickly sent me on diverse assignments from photographing royalty to disasters. I learned that in the world of photojournalism, there are no specialists. A training worth it’s weight in gold. I learnt fast. During that time, I photographed Presidents Reagan, Gorbachev and Butto, the Presidents of Turkey, Portugal, Germany, and ex-President Jimmy Carter. I photographed the Kings of Norway, Spain, King Hussein and ex-King Constantine. I also photographed Margaret Thatcher on numerous occasions and the Royal Family over 50 times. The events I covered were equally as diverse. I was on location for the Angolan Peace Talks, the Piper Alpha North Seas oil-rig disaster, the London's Kings Cross underground fire disaster, the marriage of Prince Andrew to Sarah Ferguson, the Brixton and Tottenham race riots, the final concert of Wham, Michael Jackson in concert, and Band-Aid. I also covered hundreds of assignments for national and foreign newspapers and magazines shooting portraits, features and hard news. in 1987, I used this diverse experience to work for nine months in the Philippines to broaden my photographic experience. Working as a freelance for Gamma Picture Agency, I developed story ideas, made the necessary contacts, researched, photographed, and even supplied copy. During this short but intense visit, I spent months living in the jungle covering the MNLF Muslim rebels' fight for independence of the southern islands of Mindanao, Basilan and Jolo. Also the Christian vigilantes and Tad Tad groups fight against communist rebels. Back in London, sensing a need to continue to develop my photographic skills, I began producing commercial work for electronics companies, banks, public relations firms, and advertising agencies, such as Ogilvy & Mather and Vallin Pollin. In 1989, I emigrated to Australia to be closer to Asia and to continue working commercially. From 1993 to 1999 I ran my own studio, Graphica Photography,in the heart of Sydney, creating annual reports and advertising photography for companies such as Zurich Insurance, Alcatel, ICI Chemicals, Nortel Communications and James Hardie. It was my interest in commercial photography and 10 years darkroom experience that led me to the new digital technology, particularly translating traditional darkroom techniques to digital printing. My commercial photography is now a digital process from start to finish. In 2000, I returned to London and started work for BAA plc completing a round the world assignment shooting their airports and began shooting the British landscape in my own time. From 2004 amoungst other work, I began documenting the construction of Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 5 building, the work enclosed. In 2007, I continue some Terminal 5 work, but mainly shoot corporate work with companies and designers and work on annual reports. Quality is very important and satisfying to me and I continue to look for clients with similar beliefs and challenging projects, where I can apply my photographic and project management experience to mutual benefit. http://www.britishpanoramics.com/index.html [zixian 编辑于 2009-09-29 20:40] ![]() |

WISE BIRDS IN WINTER
An accomplished photographer’s best tips for finding owls, plus seven locations that attract wise birds and wise birdwatchers alike. photos by Jim Zipp Armed with good ears, a little luck, and more than a little know-how, birdwatchers all across North America can find Great Horned and other owls year-round. But as photographer Jim Zipp has discovered, owl watching can be especially good in winter, and in certain years, at certain locations, it can be magical. What’s more, as Jim’s photos reveal, the magic can occur right in your own backyard. MY FAVORITE OWL HOT SPOTS Amherst Island, Ontario Owls are present ever winter on this private island in Lake Ontario. Noted for the fairly regular appearance of Boreal Owls, Amherst also hosts Long-eared, Snowy, Short-eared, and Northern Saw-whet Owls nearly every winter. In really good years, even Great Gray Owls show up. Screech-owls and Long-eared and Great Horned Owls are resident. Jones Beach, New York Located on the south shore of Long Island about 30 miles east of Manhattan, Jones Beach near Oceanside can be a great place to find Snowy Owls. The extensive dunes and expansive beaches here are the attraction. Reclaimed strip mines, southeastern Ohio Open surface-mining areas turned grasslands, including the Woodbury Wildlife Area in Coshocton County and the Wilds in Muskingum County, have been hosting good numbers of Short-eared Owls, which are rare in Ohio. Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory, Duluth, Minnesota The hawk-banding station at Hawk Ridge in Duluth is well known. Less well known is that the station switches over to banding owls at night. Hundreds of Northern Saw-whet Owls, plus a few Long-eareds, are captured every fall. Plum Island and Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts This barrier island is a plum birding destination year-round, but winter is best for owls. Snowy Owls find the miles of dunes attractive. Close-by Salisbury Beach hosts Snowies as well as Longeared and Saw-whet Owls, and Short-eared Owls can be seen coursing the marsh toward sunset. Sax-Zim Bog, Minnesota During the winter of 2004-05, it was possible to see more than 100 Great Gray Owls and one or two dozen Northern Hawk Owls a day here and in surrounding areas just north of Duluth. Both species can usually be found in normal winters. In fact, both sometimes nest in the area. Southeastern Arizona Spotted Owls are in the Huachuca Mountains outside of Sierra Vista, and Western and Whiskered Screech-Owls and Elf, Spotted, Flammulated, Barn, and Great Horned Owls can be found near Portal. My good friend Rick Bowers of Tucson found 11 species of owl in a single day. -- Jim Zipp http://www.jimzipp.com/ [zixian 编辑于 2009-05-15 01:34] |

Thomas Ruff was born in 1958 in Zell am Harmersbach, Germany. He attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1977 to 1985, where he studied under Bernd Becher. Ruff began photographing landscapes, but while he was still a student he transitioned to interiors (1979–83) and deadpan portraits of friends. His early portraits were black-and-white and small, but he soon switched to color, using solid backgrounds in different colors. He began to experiment with large-format printing in 1986, ultimately producing photographs up to seven by five feet in size. Ruff expanded beyond portraiture with Haus (1987–91), a series of building exteriors. In 1989, he produced a series of images depicting starry skies, derived from pictures he had obtained from the astronomy institute of the Ruhr-Universitt Bochum.

Tim Fitzharris began his career in photography in 1971 photographing nesting great blue herons from a camouflaged treetop blind 70 ft. above the ground. For the ensuing 8 years he photographed nature part-time while teaching high school and elementary school. By 1979 he was working full time at photography, shooting in the field and teaching workshops in a variety of venues, including the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology. In 1983 his first book, The Adventure of Nature Photography was published. At about the same time, his photos were featured on the cover of Audubon magazine 4 times in one year. Since then he has traveled to many of the earth's wild places in search of unique images and his photographs appear regularly in periodicals world-wide. Since 2000 Tim has been the monthly nature photography columnist for Popular Photography & Imaging magazine, the world?s largest circulating photo periodical (500,000). He has published numerous Sierra Club art cards including six boxed sets. He is the author and photographer of 28 additional picture books on wilderness and wildlife including Big Sky, Rocky Mountains: Wilderness Reflections, Canada: A Natural History and the award-winning Sierra Club Guide to 35 mm Landscape Photography. He has published more than 100 one-man calendars and engagement diaries and captured several prizes in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Contest including two first prizes (2001 & 2002) in bird behavior (see photo) and mammal behavior(see photo). His stock photographs are published world wide and have appeared on the front covers of Life, Audubon, Nature's Best Photography Magazine, Terre Sauvage, Popular Photography, Outdoor Photographer, and many others. ![]() |

Nature photography is my passion and my way of promoting wildlife awareness. I was born in Israel and moved to Australia in 2002 where I do most of my photography. I started to take pictures of birds at the age of 21 with an old Olympus OM-1 body and a 300mm manual focus lens. My old photographs were published in various magazines and publications in Israel and overseas. A few years later I, together with my brother Ido who is also a photographer, made a wildlife film about Kingfishers in Israel. I was born on December, 31 1983, for my entire life, I have lived in what used to be a small town. I grew up fishing, and playing outdoors, most of that time spent without the company of my shoes. I always loved to be outdoors, and still do. Over time, I've cultivated a deep appreciation for the Everglades, and different types of ecosystems in Florida. At first the casual trips to the Everglades seemed more of a chore than a break from anything, and my feelings stayed that way for quite a while; never really wanting to leave the comfort of the family van. But you see, once I nervously stepped into the clear, beautiful water of the Everglades, I not only acquired a taste for it. I got hooked! Since then, I've logged countless miles trekking into the open ‘glades day and night. When I'm not in the Everglades, I'm usually at my computer designing Web Sites. Being the web master and web designer at Wild Florida Photography keeps me pretty busy all by it’s self. While it is time consuming, I've really enjoyed taking the time to design a site about Photography, and Florida's Natural Wonders. I love photography. And my photography is especially rewarding when capturing images of Wild Florida and her Everglades. While I enjoy wildlife photography, my favorite style of photography has to be Florida landscapes and scenics. It challenges you to capture and, somehow, present the perfect beauty that seems impossible to capture perfectly. The Everglades has an amazing and magnificent array of ecosystems to explore, I love having the opportunity to Wet Walk in the Glades. And I hope I can share this experience with you.

"On a Wing and a Prayer; The Migratory Birds of North America."这名不好翻,这是一个俚语,源自Harold Adamson和Jimmie McHugh二战时写的一首歌:“Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer”(1943年),意思是:In poor condition, but just managing to get the job done.
