American photographer David Schultz captured intimate family moments of an adult and baby penguin while on a trip to the Antarctic. The images include the chick peeking out from under the adult's brood pouch, being encouraged to walk on the ice and looking up at its parent. The Emperor penguins belong to a colony near Snow Hill Island along the Antarctic Peninsula.

A male sage grouse puffs its chest out and extends its spiky tail feathers. The bird can inflate two air sacs on its chest during its courtship ritual. This male sage grouse strutted around for hours while fanning his tail feathers and making a series of calls to females. Photographer Doug Dance drove more than 1,000 miles to photograph the courtship at Bluebank lek, in Wyoming, America.

A butterfly perches on the head of an Amazon River Turtle. Photographer Nate Chappell spotted the cheeky insect hitching a ride near the Amazon River in Ecuador. He explains: "I was standing in the open air lounge at Sani Lodge ecolodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle when I noticed a butterfly perched on the head of this Amazon River Turtle. I scrambled down to the river bank to try and photograph it. At first the butterfly flitted off as I startled it but it soon returned to sit on the turtle's head. The butterfly is of the genus Oleria and it's believed that the butterflies take salts and minerals from the head and eyes of the turtles. The turtles let this go on, so they probably get some benefit from it as well."
