About me
I am a free spirit, with an uncontrollable need to capture emotions, with ※※※※※※※※※※ creative urges me every minute. To satisfy this need I have found primary energy in the music (I play and compose), painting (I have made several solo exhibitions and book illustrations), and photography. I am a graduate in economics and a master's degree in banking and finance, but that's only the serious giuseppe, but here we speak of "maio", that pays attention to every detail, every gesture, every sound, and that keeps every moment as a treasure, and that chose photography as meditation. I was lucky to have parents that passed me the passion and desire to know the world, and the sensitivity to read the valuable messages. I was fascinated when I was 9 years old when my father showed me, with a projector Video8, his movies in Polynesia, China, Japan made in the yars '50s. My mother was born in Poland and she passed me the importance of speaking more language as possible, so I learned English, French, Polish and Spanish, which helped me in my job and also has helped me in my travels around the world. When I take a picture I do it for myself to fulfill my creative needs and for the desire to communicate, to share with whoever is available and has the sensitivity to share not only an image but an emotion, and this is my intent beyond the mere aesthetic fact.
I'm not a photographer for job, I travel to feel, to discover and fascinate about people, places and situations distant from my everyday life. As a child I travelled all around Europe, with its history, its museums (tens of times I visited the Louvre and I admired the Impressionists first Jeu de Paume and then at the Musée d'Orsay), its cathedrals, I lived and worked in London. Now I look for what remains of nature, the spontaneity of the people not yet "fully" flattened and shaped by consumerism, so my favorite destinations are Africa from Kenya down, (I visited Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia , South Africa, Madagascar), South America and Asia, places away from the westernized cities you still can find if you have eyes to do it, imprints of the past. I love photographing people, glances, gestures, communicating moods, situations, describing lives, relationships, friendships. I like to photograph animals in Africa, breathing the smell sour, bitter and primordial of the African savannah, imagining that the earth since its inception has always been so.
With the photograph was not love at first sight, my first love was painting, and I still have today the imprint of the painters artist's image composition. The first photos that impressed and excited me in adolescence were two shots of Doisneau, that I bought at the Banque de l'Image in Paris, depicting "the kiss at the Hotel de Ville (Paris)", the one and the 'other pupils of an elementary school sitting behind desks intent on solving a task, I was astonished by the way the artist had caught the dreamy expression of a pupil, a way that still makes me shudder when I look at it.

Look At My Sheep
I was staying in a Daasenich village on the banks of the Omo river. The tribe were friendly and lost interest in their visitor soon after my arrival as I just sat and talked to the tribal elders. Whilst escaping the days heat and chatting to the elders, this young girl continually approached me, she never said a word but came back time and time again to show me something else that she could find.
When she returned with this Sheep, I realised it was time to take her picture.

About me
In 1975, between semesters at the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy, I borrowed a camera and ventured on a road trip to the Grand Canyon and Colorado with a schoolmate. I was hooked.
Upon graduating from Pharmacy school in 1976 I treated myself to my first Nikon 35mm camera. It was retired in the late 1990s when I converted to digital. It continued to serve my family when my youngest daughter decided to attend Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. It continues to take fine images even during this time of the digital photography revolution.
I am self-taught through research, experimentation and perseverance. Devouring books and magazine articles, as well as studying prints by other photographers I am in close contact, take up much of my idle time. I have also attended workshops under Master photographers such as Alain Briot in order to refine my skills. I make an effort to be limitless in the variety of subjects I choose to photograph although I lean towards landscapes. Learning to deal with a variety of situations and subjects can only improve my art as I continue to expand my knowledge and stretch the envelope.
As I progressed through the stages of my photography (learning, acquiring and perfecting my vision), I discovered within myself that documentation of a subject was not enough to provide me with the satisfaction of becoming an adequate photographer/artist. I know there is more than just snapping the shutter. What drives me is taking my photography beyond the final step in the initial process of capturing an image: that initial shutter release. This is only the first step in creating an image. Although it is important to make that first step the best it can be, it would be short sighted to stop and present what was captured and interpreted by the camera as a final image. Possibilities abound with the use of the tools that are available today.
I tend to use many different techniques when I create my images. I may capture an image by using what the camera and lenses offer me as tools. Vaseline on the lens filter, slow shutter speeds, and camera motion may be employed; as well as multiple exposures. The one limit I place on myself in creating an image is that I do not add objects that are not there. I may take distracting objects out of the image but only do this on rare occasions. My preference is to start with one file (negative) and work with what I have captured in the field. Some times 2 or more files may be combined and one image is created from these 2. Once that initial process has been completed, the digital darkroom remains my final tool in developing the image that represents my vision of what is possible.
If I can succeed in presenting an image that inspires the viewer to take a deep breath at what they see, then I have accomplished my goal. Because that is exactly how I feel when I look at the image I have created.
