Nick Gilder - Hot Child in the City

Gilder begin his career as frontman for the glam rock band Sweeney Todd, which also briefly featured a very young Bryan Adams. Sweeney Todd had a number one hit, "Roxy Roller", that held on to the top spot in the Canadian music charts for three weeks in 1975. It went on to win a Juno Award for "Best Selling Single" in 1977.

Feeling they had international scope, Gilder and fellow band member, guitarist and songwriting partner, James McCulloch left the band and signed an American record deal. It wasn't until his second solo album, which spawned the hit "Hot Child in the City", that Gilder finally had chart success in the United States. That song went to No.1 both in Canada and the US. It also earned him two more Juno Awards: "Single of the Year" and for "Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year" in Canada as well as a People's Choice Award in the US.

Gilder has also been successful as a songwriter for artists such as Patty Smyth, Bette Midler, Joe Cocker and Pat Benatar. In 1984, the band Scandal had a number one hit with "The Warrior," which was written by Gilder and Holly Knight, and it earned him a BMI Airplay Award.

Gilder's songs have been used in several movies such as Youngblood with Rob Lowe, The Wraith with Charlie Sheen, Barb Wire with Pamela Anderson, Scenes From the Goldmine, which includes a cameo appearance by Gilder, and in TV series like Sex and the City, That '70s Show, Ed (TV series), and most recently Nip/Tuck.

Armand Van Helden sampled "Rockaway" on his 2005 club hit, "When the Lights Go Down." The following year Nemesis recorded “Hot Child in the City” for their 2006 debut CD, Rise Up and Rocket recorded “Backstreet Noise” for their CD, Girls with Candy Hearts. Phoenix-based power pop band Sugar High recorded the song "Time After Time" for a proposed tribute album and have included the song in concert.

Gilder returned to Canada in the mid-1990s, where he continues to record and tour.

Brewer Shipley - One Toke over the Line

Brewer & Shipley were a folk rock duo of the late 1960s through 1970s, consisting of singer-songwriters Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley. They were known for their intricate guitar work, vocal harmonies and socially conscious lyrics, which reflected the concerns of their generation -- especially the Vietnam War, and the struggles for personal and political freedom. Their biggest hit was the song "One Toke Over the Line" from their 1970 album Tarkio. They also had two other singles which made the Billboard charts: "Tarkio Road" (1970) and "Shake Off the Demon" (1971). They continue to perform, both separately and together, usually in the Midwest.

"Rhythm of the Rain" has been covered by dozens of other artists, including Ricky Nelson, Johnny Rivers, Jan and Dean, Sergio Inostroza, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Neil Sedaka, Bobby Darin, Sarah Brightman and Dan Fogelberg.

Australian former Neighbours star Jason Donovan covered this song. His version reached #9 on the UK charts in 1990, but failed to reach the top 10 charts in his home country. The music video features Donovan and another actress (possibly another Neighbours star) are starring in a film set in Hong Kong. Donovan sings outside in the rain in a backyard. It also features the actress posing as Audrey Hepburn and kissing Donovan on a ship. In 2008, Donovan re-recorded the song for his album "Let It Be Me" (2008).

正好在这里求助各位仁兄，看看能不能帮我找到几首老歌的录音。

八十年代初，上海电台曾多次播放过一段《美国五十年代金曲》的节目，共两部分，各30分钟，收录了一些很好听的歌，演唱者是同一个人，有点流里流气的男声。这些歌好像都是翻唱的，因为原唱者应分别为不同的歌手，但这丝毫不影响我喜欢这位翻唱者的嗓音。可惜我一直不知道是他是谁，也就一直找不到这个节目的原版唱片。记得这些歌里面就有一首雨的节奏（Rhythm of the Rain）。 -- 从Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head不由想到了Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain...

哈哈,Schen兄还是喜欢更刺激的， Trance我喜欢的，但前几年有过几次听到high的经历，现在听，但是不多，high不动了。 通常一张专辑里我也就喜欢几段。电子乐还是要去现场，感觉完全和在家里听两样的，声场和气场缺一不可。 说到Trance，PVD的东西干净利落，我最喜欢的还是他的 <The politics of dancing>.

特别喜欢Torn Between Two Lovers，还是许多年前从上海电台听到的，现在应该还在身边哪盘当年录的磁带里。

呵呵，du兄终于也来了。这首Love of the common people很久没听到了，但几乎每次听到都会让我想起Billy Joel的Uptown Girl，仔细想了想原因，发觉一来是因为这两首歌当年是同时听到的，二来它们之间确实有共通之处。这第二点，各位以为如何？

呵呵，Hed Kandi这个厂牌我不熟悉，唱片店里倒是常看到他们的CD，但没买过。Lounge我不大听，我喜欢听很激烈的电子，可能是听习惯了，再听慢一点的，有时就没有耐心。

"Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" is a song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Further, David and Bacharach won Best Original Score. The version by B. J. Thomas was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States in January, 1970 for four weeks and the first #1 single of the 1970's. It also spent seven weeks atop the U.S. adult contemporary chart.[1]

The song was recorded in seven takes, after Bacharach expressed dissatisfaction with the first six.

Ray Stevens had been first offered the opportunity to record the song for the motion picture, but turned it down. He chose instead to record "Sunday Morning Coming Down," which was written by Kris Kristofferson.

The song features in the Taylor Milliken movie Spy Hard, which parodies the scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where the song plays. It also features on the soundtracks of Forrest Gump and the superhero film, Spider-Man 2, in the latter accentuating Peter Parker's blissful mood after abandoning his Spider-Man identity and its responsibilities. Most recently it was used in the Kevin Smith film Clerks II. It was also sung in The Simpsons episode, "Duffless". Also, the first episode of the second season from Grey's Anatomy is named after the song.
