I started taking pictures at the age of 5 and took my first photograph 15 years later. When not hanging on 1x, I work as a tax specialist. When I dont do either, Im in the field working on two long-time photographic projects - Armenia (which I hope to finish this year) and the Indian Himalaya (which I will finish in another life). Im rather a would-be photojournalist than a creative photo artist, and here at 1x theres plenty of both kinds of photographers with images never ceasing to inspire. My photographic credo can be summed up in one sentence: theres only the photograph. Context and efforts put in it could add but in 99% a photo is only good if it has impact without all the collaterals. And if I am very, very satisfied with a photo but it wouldnt work for others, an old joke comes to mind: a guy is driving his Porsche at 120 miles on the highway. He hears a traffic warning on the radio: "a crazy driver is driving in the wrong lane against the direction, be aware!" And our guy just thinks, "ONE crazy driver? This photo shows the moment when a soldier got out of cover and shouted at the bad boys, trying to make them surrender. War veteran A veteran of the Karabagh war on Victory Day (8 May), which commemorates the end of the war, in front of a tank monument. In order to preserve its documentary value, I didn't edit it much except BW conversion. Romanian cemetery, Christmas 1989 It's the last from my '89 Romania archive and hope is within site limits. It shows an exhumated mass grave, with bodies of demonstrators killed by police and paramilitary squads a week before Christmas, when the revolution eventually prevailed. Prized possessions Mt Ararat I took this shot of Mount Ararat from the eastern, Armenian side. It is an old Asian tradition to erect a little stone cairn when the journey has been safely completed. Photographs and music inspire each other in my life. I have been taking pictures almost all my life, but more seriously last four years, when I got my first digital camera. I have never studied photographing, I am self-educated.
