She estimated that she was in her late 70s. Still loved and respected by everyone in the village her life had not been easy since the loss of her husband, but she kept in good spirits. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Desert Dweller Nangi Bhai is 26 years old; he has spent most of his life herding cattle on the outskirts of the 揕ittle Rann of Kutch� (a desert in North Gujarat). In the modern world he is a rare find � a young man living a completely traditional life, following in the footprints of his ancestors. His bond with the cattle and his knowledge of living in and around the desert are unparallel. One morning we set out to join his brother and the flock of sheep which had been grazing in green fields, 6 km away from the house. As we walked to our destination Nangi Bhai kept saying that he could see the sheep, but we were so far that I found this hard to believe. As we got much nearer I finally noticed small dots on the horizon, they were the sheep Nangi Bhai had been pointing out from the beginning of our walk.
